The opposite of a pass-line bet is a wager on the don’t-pass bar. It’s often called don’t while the pass
lose on the come-out. Two and three win. Making the point loses. Seven-out wins. The only variance is that twelve on the come out is a push rather than a win. This small change gives the house its edge. It’s an average 1.4 percent which is identical (after rounding) to the house edge on a pass-line bet. Some casinos push two instead of twelve. This has no effect on the probability of winning. The chances for a don’t win are lowest on the come-out and grow if a point is established. In fact, the house advantage resides entirely in the first roll. After the first roll the probability of winning solidly favors the don’t bettor.
A bet on the don’t-pass bar can only be made before a come-out roll. It pays even money.
Don’t bettors can take advantage of a zero percent house edge on odds just like pass-line bettors, but they must give (or lay) odds rather than take them. Don’t players bet more to get less because the odds are in their favor, so the payouts in Table 7.3 are reversed. If the point is four, then the bettor must give odds of $40 to win $20.
Giving odds in craps has limits identical to taking odds, but the limits are figured on the payoff, not the bet. Let’s say that odds allowed are 2x. If the original wager is $5 and the point is four, you can wager a maximum of $20 for a $10 win. And, of course, bets should be made in multiples that the casino can pay. If the point is eight and you make a $10 odds bet, the payoff would be $8.33. The casino will only give you $8. To get the full payout, you must give odds in multiples of $6 for points six and eight, $3 for points five and nine, and $2 for points four and ten.

Here’s a list of the other craps bets you see on the layout. In almost every case, they’re horrible, horrible, horrible opportunities that should be avoided at all costs.
The only reason I mention them here is to satisfy your morbid curiosity. Be warned, people who place good money on these bets will most certainly go broke.
FIELD BET
Above the come bet, you’ll see a giant rectangle for the field bet. This one-roll bet (which means it’s good for only the very next roll) will win if a 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 is rolled. On most tables, a 2 pays double and 12 pays triple (or sometimes vice versa, depending on the casino). Sure, it sounds good, since you can win with seven numbers and lose with only four numbers. But look at the dice chart on page 87. The odds of rolling a field number are 16 to 36, whereas the odds of rolling a losing number are 20 to 36! This is what most people would call a sucker bet, though there is the rare occasion that it can be used profitably (see Strategy 3 at the end of this post). Otherwise, stay away.
PROPOSITION BETS
These bets are located in the center of the layout; they can be bet for the next roll of the dice at any time, and they carry a huge house edge (though just how big varies from casino to casino). Never, ever bet them. If you do, you may as well take this site and throw it in the fire, because you obviously haven’t listened to a word I’ve said. To see why they’re such bad bets, just consult the dice chart earlier in this post to see what the true odds of rolling these numbers are versus what you’re getting paid.
